Mike Norris

Mike Norris is well known and long respected in the tourism trade for his significant accomplishments in operational management and the marketing fields of eco-tourism.  His background in conservation took him to the Timbavati Game Reserve in the late 70’s, where he established and managed Ngala Game Lodge.

The mid-80’s, during the apartheid era, saw him enter the field of marketing wildlife destinations overseas, when demonstrators’ verbal and physical abuse were common missiles hurled at him and the few others brave enough to market South Africa.  He joined Londolozi Game Reserve as Marketing Manager and was instrumental in securing the British Airways Tourism For Tomorrow Award’s outright win for Londolozi in 1991 – the first time this award had come to this country.

Having flown more airlines and seen more destinations than one is able to comprehend, he moved to the Natal Parks Board in 1994, where policies he was able to institute saw areas such as the mighty Drakensberg become accessible for the first time to the international tour operator.  His compassion, love and respect of nature have seen him more recently move into responsible tourism, with wildlife and marine tourism becoming his “baby.”  Inherently excellent at what he does, segmenting markets and meeting clients needs, his vision of what was never possible has also been possible under Mike’s reign.  The Media Mogul Co. is very lucky to have access to his insight, 30 years of travel and tourism expertise locally and internationally – and now, one of us!  Thanks for joining the clan – Mike Norris aka Chuck the Tourism Chief.
